Ok....so there's this debate over this cartoon.  Some folks say it's a public defamation of islam.  Folks are referring to the crescent moons, both on the outhouse door and the other one in the sky above.  With the punchline, folks are makin' a pretty big deal about it.  A local website was lit up with angry folks suggesting that the imagry is blatent racism.

Perhaps the B.C. folks are trying to muscle into the Doonsbury arena of scathing political commentary.  But, since everyone is tearing this little strip up, I'll take a whack at it myself.

1.  The cartoon is entitled, BC.  There is no indication as to how far ago this strip is supposed to take place, but I believe the advent of wooden outbuildings with the single slanting angle roof was well into the 1200 A.D. years. Dual angle pitch came later.  This will take some research.

2.  Even the ancients knew better than to build a latrine on a hill.  Even if you dig a nice deep hole, you risk runoff and stinking up the entire area.  So, the latrine placement is all wrong.

3.  Where is the DOOR HANDLE and the HINGES?  The total lack of necessary fixtures depicts a culture that eschews luxuries and focuses on simple living.  I think this cartoon has a definate Amish or Mennonite Slant.  For SHAME!

I think the folks who are getting upset over this have just never seen an outhouse.  The ones we had on the farm (insert redneck jokes here) always had moons, stars or something carved in the door for LIGHT and VENTALATION!
