You would hope the younger generations do but perhaps not young people that live in the USA. We are now a failing or faltering democracy. A third of our citizens seem to have given up on democracy, do not want that anymore, and instead see dictatorship as a better choice. Some seem to fool themselves into thinking we are not sliding into a dictatorship but this is because they ignore the massive signs.
If our democracy falls, if we become a Russian style oligarchy, will another country fill the vacuum? Pick-up the torch? I am waiting for the moment when Trump says we should demolish the Statue of Liberty. I mean, he can say that now, because he has made it something that is no longer a symbol of our country. Instead, he can erect on Liberty Island (which he can change to Trump Island) an enormous statue of himself, and have written on it "If you are white, you are welcome."
This now more represents where he is taking us. And let's face it, some people in MAGA would cheer that.
But, where do we find our hope as the guy in the video says? Where do we look for the next country to attempt this grand experiment in liberty, freedom, and justice for all?
Americans used to love a comeback story. We rooted for the underdog. Now, a third of the country roots for the rich, white guy, that is taking your rights, trampling democracy, and wants to turn our military into a federal police force that kills and puts in horrible camps/jails, people that dissent.
We have stopped dreaming of democracy and instead cling to slim hopes. Hopes that Trump and MAGA are fighting to destroy.
The tears they want to drink, are the tears of their fellow Americans, the people that would have put you on their back and carried you. That love this country, love what we stood for, and love what we strived to be.
Was it all just a dream? Am I a fool?
