Great film, I saw it when it came out in Boston. Highbrow ideas driven horror. Totally fucked up that we are living through it. 

I think Come and See is the movie I want everybody to see right now. Not an easy film, but it is a total masterpiece and should deter anybody that watches it from wanting to go to war. The director never made another film because he felt he could not top it. He was likely correct. 

Essentially, for those that have never seen it, the film is about the journey of a young Russian boy that begins the tale looking and acting like a young boy, playing on a beach. He finds a rifle in the sand and with all the exuberance of a young boy decides he wants to take the rifle and go and join his countrymen in their resistance of the Nazis. He begins thinking he is going on this grand and brave adventure. By the end of the film, the boy looks like an old man. The horrors of war, which we are shown, have transformed him. Not because the film takes place over a long period of time, no he is still a boy, but the war has aged him in a short time as he has seen what it does to people. 

It is one of those odd films, about a horrible subject that looks absolutely beautiful. It may be the greatest anti-war film ever made. When I saw it for the first time, I truly believed anybody that watched that could never, NEVER, want to go to war. I can't say you will feel great at the end, but some part of you will be transformed by the end. As that boy had been. Masterpiece. Total and complete masterpiece. It's not light viewing and I can't ask anybody to watch it without warning them first that it is a tough film. But really, you should see it. Everybody should see it. And I am not overselling it. It really packs a wallop. 

I thought about it watching footage of cars and people fleeing Tehran. The film's title comes from every rapture loving Christian's favorite book.
