You know Dale someone else mentioned Morton downey Jr as well. My personal opinion is that sort of conflict and tension is what interests many viewers. If you look at TV and radio shows that are popular most are loud, controversial, and more entertainment than educational or newsworthy. on TV you've got shows like Springer and any number of vapid talk shows. On the radio you've got Limbaugh, Stern, Imus and about a zillion others who use shock and in your face tactics to incite listeners to keep listening. If an obnoxious, loudmouthed, entertaining liberal started a talk show it would sell . . . not that I would be anymore inclined to watch/listen to it over any other . . .
