so i'm hanging out with John Hiatt after last night's (phenomenal) show, shooting the proverbial shite. after the Fillmore show last year, i gave him a little box with some birthday presents, including HCTNFU, and i asked him if he'd listened to it. A little, he says, not exactly convincing me. you know who he is, eh?, i ask, and he says, kinda wearily, "yeah, i know Baerwald..."

i replied that he's a 'very talented and yeah, intense dude, quite a bit darker than your work, but i love his stuff', and moved on to other topics, but it got me thinking. now, i know - in the words of one wag - that there was 'a cottage industry of inflammatory Baerwald gossip' going around LA and wherever else there for a while...but i'm curious - is there more to this story than what met my ears?
