If I ever wanted to see that, it would be reserved for those individuals who take up arms against their country (and other acts of direct treason) The situations in the Basque region and N.Ireland are different because the rebel forces don't claim to be part of the country they fight against. As far as I understand it, this is an open and shut case of old-fashioned treachery. As soon as he fired the first shot, he signed off all of his 'rights'.

Now is not the time to try and "feel his pain" - if he thinks he's one of Allah's soldiers, then let him go out and face the best of them and see who walks away. It wouldn't really be fair to send a 20 year old up against a unit of the SAS, though... but then who said justice is?

In the same way that the 5th column didn't rush to the defence of Tim McVeigh and sully anymore Niemoller quotes, why waste your angst on him?
