In a post-truth society, there does seem to be a greater emphasis on the ability and power to influence at the expense of intellectual integrity.  I certainly feel a sense of loss and grief for the latter's devaluation; ranging from indifference to disdain.  My sliver of hope rests in a savvy politician playing off the boomerang and generating a wave of interest in reviving this ideal.
