BUILD THE WALL or DEPORT THEM ALL, both just invented to give his supporters something to chant. Problem is, no feasible plan to accomplish it, no price tag put on it, and so it won't happen but in order to make people think something is happening and they are being "tough" there will have to be some sort of grotesque display of cruelty that they televise. I'm sure they will lock some people up, no doubt that happens. Hopefully, whoever they do lock up is a criminal, but I don't think that matters to them, it is going to be about the show.
Show a piece of wall being built, show some person being brutalized on TV.
Looking at facts, not that they matter anymore, Obama was the Deporter in Chief as under his administration they were deporting some 400,000 people a year, but there is a qualifier to that. They were doing that at the border, essentially turning back 400,000 people right there.
In Trump's proposal, they will now have to try to track down a million people in his first year in office, they have to put them through some sort of legal process, jail them, and then transport them out of the country, which you do have to get some sort of permission for from the country you are sending them to.
The cost of this by some estimates to do all this work, which we don't have people or a workforce in place to do is said to potentially run about $4.5 billion per 25,000 people you locate, catch, process, and deport.
Wow, OK Department of Government Efficiency tell me we the people are getting our money's worth out of that. Not to mention how this will impact the workforce in this country and drive inflation because you no longer have that inexpensive labor that staffs the food industry so eggs, milk, vegetables, meat and the rest are affordable at the grocery store.
As someone else said, I think a Republican or MAGA person, "It is not about deporting them, it is about making them live in fear that we are coming to get them and deport them."
We have entered a period of tremendous ignorance and cruelty.
