So true and thoughtful, Peter.  Thank you so much for sharing.  It really is so easy to feel disheartened at the sustained momentum behind these events.  But as wiser ones before us have shared, cynicism is the easy way out.  Like you, I have emerged with a refreshed perspective of the fragility of our social fabric and trying to find a balance of optimism, vigor, and discomplacence (regardless if that is a legitimate word).
