A lot of interesting stuff going on here—North African-style electric guitar, padded drums, Ed O'Brien-of- Radiohead-style sample and looping, the cool new line of Moog synthesizers and filters. The guitars are a venerable Australian brand called either Maton or Maxon, I can't remember which, and the only reason I've even heard of them is through a wonderful Australian engineer who had one. Like the exotic Italian guitars of the Atomic Age were eccentric in aesthetic design and often extremely excessive in their electrical signal path which caused lots of problems for lots of people. The English company Vox also started experimenting with these things, and the Australians were, like them, inspired by the freaky Italian designs of the day, from brands like Eko. Most of those instruments were absolute junk, but the ones Glass Beams are playing seem really well-built. Extremely cool band.
