The Night of the 12th is one of the absolute best films I have ever seen when it comes to a police procedural of a murder investigation. 

It is a film about the murder of a 21-year-old female returning home from a friend's house.  The movie then doggedly moves through the investigation.  It is not a "thriller" but a study of what happens in a murder investigation and it is exceptional. It is a slow-burn type movie, where to me, every uttered word matters. 

This film has it all and covers everyone involved in such an investigation - the victim, the victim's family, the cops, the prosecutor, all of them, and the toll crimes like this take on the people involved. Though it is not an extremely graphic film, the portrayal of the victim in death is so accurate that the images of the victim are so realistic that they look as if they are from a real murder, but they aren't.

And the portrayal of the victim's parents is so very well done.  Too often, I have noticed traumatic event depictions are greatly emotional and lacking in creating a large amount of empathy, but this film does it just right.  There is one scene that is just heartbreaking and it is so subtle in its depiction. 

Dialog is very important in this movie and reveals so much that is so easily overlooked. It is so subtle at times that the impact of it may not be realized until after more thought (or maybe I'm just too much of a vapid viewer).
