David, did you find a whiskey you like(d) or did it all turn to peat mush or something...
I'm not saying I'm an expert at all, but I do keep 8-10 different bottles at all times, so guests have something to choose from :-)
Personally I'm partial to standard 10 years Talisker (usually at around 65 +/- 5 US$) and its stronger cousin Talisker 57° North (cask strength usually around 110 US $). The latter does need a couple of drops of water to open up. Both are a little smokey as most single malts but not to much and a pleasant sweetness. And it is a step up from the standard Glenfiddich/Glenlivet.
