I know you have mentioned this several times, so why is it that arms are going to Israel and there have been issues with the US sending them to Ukraine lately?
There are several reasons for this really, not the least of which is we have a Republican majority house that has a strategy of blocking anything getting done. They have blocked arms and aid going to both Israel and Ukraine, not out of some pacifist agenda to stop the killing, but to create sheer mayhem and to make it appear Biden can't get anything done.
These people bitched endlessly how nothing comes above working to fix the issues at the US Southern border and when Biden lets them write their own border package, and he agrees to it, a Republican led writing it, Trump calls his idiots in Congress and says "Do not pass that deal! I am trying to campaign on a broken border, if you do that it will fix the border and harm me!"
So, they vote against their own fucking bill. They claimed at first, that bill had to pass before they did any arms or aid to both Israel or Ukraine...so Biden gives them the bill, they vote against it, because Trump told them to.
The Republicans/MAGA thinks that all works to their advantage BECAUSE THEY WANT THINGS TO SPIRAL OUT OF CONTROL IN GAZA AND UKRAINE AND AT OUR US BORDER.
So, why did Biden override them and still send the aid and arms to Israel? Because that deal was already in place with our longstanding ally. So, Biden honored it. The US is sending arms to Israel for their own protection because we agreed to help them protect themselves. Yes, Israel is using the situation to slaughter away in Gaza, but we have to try to negotiate them out of that. If we just shut them off, it is like giving permission for a giant war in the Middle East to break out because the countries that want to attack Israel will see that as a green light to do so.
So, basically most of why the arms are being supplied is so Israels enemies see an open show of support to prevent a larger war. So, there is a performative aspect of that. It does not mean that Biden wants to see Israel slaughter innocent Palestinians. Holding up our side of the bargain with our standing agreements is almost certainly part of negotiations. If we did not, Israel would have even less reason to listen to us.
Due to what is happening within our Congress, you have this ongoing fight, between Republicans trying to prevent anything Biden does, and turn that into a show that Biden is useless.
So, forcing Biden to have to use his executive powers to provide arms and aid to Israel is part of their game, not a show that Biden prefers to help Israel over Ukraine.
Biden did not do it with Ukraine because he was trying to force the Republicans to vote. To show which of them support Ukraine and which do not. He could have done the same with Israel, but the Republicans were already making a show that they do support Israel, they just wanted a border deal BEFORE voting to give Israel aid. When Biden gave them the border deal, they voted against it under orders from Trump, Biden provided the aid to Israel anyway because it had bipartisan support, and that is why that rolled out like it did.
Not over any love Biden has for Israel or some personal connection with Israel. I don't know why someone in the press would write that unless they had an agenda.
