I am in no way an expert on the ways of Țuică. My wife is from Romania. I am often in the company of many immigrants from Romania. This bottle of drink was given to us to 'enjoy' with the word PEAR written on it. If it's something else entirely - then maybe Reg should have studied up on it a bit more before drinking it. That's on him.
