Now, see I think everything happens for a reason. When they were selecting a name, they could have called themselves The Daves and worn matching turtleneck sweaters in the album cover photo. Which, if they were doing all this in a state with a cold climate, may have happened. However, they were in LA, so had no use for turtlenecks, and The Daves which denies them of their individuality, David and David says, "Hey, we might share the same name, but we are separate people."
In an alternate universe The Daves exist, in turtleneck sweaters, and they had a hit about eggnog.
