As far as the Mother question goes. My mother passed away when I was young and there are certain songs that really get to me when I hear them. She was an avid Barry Manilow fan so any of his slow tunes. Others that stand out to me and take me back that era are the song "Summer Breeze" (who did that?) and "Hello, it's me" by Rundgren. I always get a bit weepy and sentimental when I hear those tunes because they take me right back to my parents kitchen in the summertime when I was about 7 or 8.
I have never really thought about what song i would want played at my funeral, but considering my sarcastic nature I am sure it would have to be something like a Steely Dan song. Or on the more emotional side that latest Warren Zevon song "Keep me in your heart" would prolly be appropriate.
