I take issue with "directly". Yes, the US weapons cache is being used. (I don't know the particulars of the agreement we reached with Israel allowing the Cache, but I'm pretty sure there is a proviso for use under war conditions.) US forces are not. I define "directly" as boots on the ground or air support in country. They are in the Red Sea defending global supply lines, which is an ancillary conflict incited by third party players.
We could go down the rabbit hole arguing the legalese of rules of engagement/support and such, but please, lets not.
Now, the article. It cites a slew of government officials and political operatives supporting wiping Gaza off the map. There is no reporting about how the message is being received and digested by the general Israeli population. This is a glaring gap in the opinion reporting through the entire war - I've seen little or no reporting on the Israeli populations mindset.
On the flip, there is a ton of reporting on the Palestinian shift of support to Hamas over the course of the war. Which is exactly what Hamas had planned from day one, stated directly by Hamas leadership. The October attack was followed by a retreat into their tunnel network leaving the Gazan population to take the brunt of the retaliation, making them Martyrs and turning public opinion in the Palestinian population.
We are not dealing with a war between Israel and Palestine. We are dealing with a war between Likud Zionists and Hamas Terrorists. Both are eliminationist ideologies and how far and deep support on either side for those ideologies goes is hotly debated. The amount of manipulation in the media (both legacy and web based) is huge - on both sides. I am skeptical of any reporting until confirmed by third parties - two examples are the "Israeli" parking lot rocket and the "Hamas" command center under the hospital - both debunked under examination. Fog. Of. War.
Nukes - let me just say if Israel is stupid enough to really consider that option, they deserve the fallout cloud drifting over their country from a bordering state. The political fallout would not matter at that point.
