Maybe I just got discouraged reading about it and looking at things about it. The theme seemed to be that most everybody in the region cares very little for the Palestinians. There seems very little motivation to help them and so we are sort of relying on the Israelis exorcising some restraint in how they go about wiping out Hamas. I do think there are Israelis that would like to not see innocent Palestinian civilians killed in this mess but I don't think Netanyahu and his crew are among them.
As I looked at it, really it seemed that all the players, including Hamas, see dead Palestinians as a good thing. All of the surrounding countries in the region seem to see benefit in innocent Palestinians getting killed, primarily because they feel it will raise animosity toward Israel. Israel seems to just feel like they have to live with the animosity anyway, so, why let that get in the way?
So, sadly it just looked to me like what is coming here will be a major slaughter and everybody is going to try to use that slaughter to their advantage. Obviously, except the Palestinians and probably the United States who will receive some of the blame for what happens because we will provide weapons and funding to Israel.
Obviously, I would very much like to be wrong. I don't like that people calling for a ceasefire are being labelled terrorist sympathizers and bashed for not supporting Israel. Israel can and should go after Hamas, the attack was horrific. I just don't think you can kill your way to a solution and we can only hope that the people involved see that as well.
