I did see it as a throughline, in fact lyrically speaking anyway, as a continuation of the very loose through line that starts with Boomtown, and continues through Bedtime Stories; of this small group of people in Los Angeles and SoCal desert environs, gradually going mad and destroying themselves, in a world that is doing the same.
