It was a tough one, Mick. I happen to really like Glenn Hughes' music, and I admire his recovery and productiveness in the 2nd half of his career. And while I'm not as high on Joe Lynn Turner, that guy does have a great voice. But this project? Coming on the heels of 2 "pretty good" Hughes/Turner albums (and a live album) it just smacked of taking the money. Obviously, from his position in the Moscow government, Mikhail Men had access to kleptocracy level money. And while it's true that he was in a band in his youth and likely dreamed of playing with guys like this, he basically bought them in. There's a couple of vaguely enjoyable tracks on a melodic level, but the whole thing isn't all that good. I think Hughes sensed something or was uncomfortable with the government association because he pretty much ceased all contact or recording with Turner after this. I remember hearing about it online, but Hughes basically buried it right after release and after doing a couple of shows in Moscow. I think Turner was the organizing force for the project.
Turns out, Turner had gotten with a woman from Belarus and lived/lives there at least part time. He's been a very public apologist for the autocratic regime in Belarus on the internet, and I can't countenance that.
