I have come to believe the entire Trump presidency has been and remains to stave off the ultimate loss of power by white Federalist Paper conservatives. It's why immigration has been such a sore issue with Trump. He and Barr, with the approval of leading Republicans see this as their last chance. It's why McConnell has been so intent on filling the courts with conservative judges. In short there are more registered non-Republicans than Republicans, and with immigration of black and brown, the gap is widening.
Civil war is a threat I never considered a possibility until recent turn of Trumpian events. His blatant, eagerness to speak of needing nine judges to settle the upcoming election results forewarns us. His militias barging into peaceful protests, Barr no longer even pretending to be neutral, threats by more and more ex federal employees, and the Republican groups voting for Biden, all signal civil unrest as we haven't seen since the civil war.
We may be still close enough to a peaceful transition Trump's efforts will fail him, but, gosh, be alert. VOTE!
