I think if he loses, the remaining Republicans run from him far and fast, knowing that a "Version 2" would be unlikely to gain such a fervor and would therefore be an automatic loss. He may not even be given the time of day by the RNC if he loses. I would foresee a quick elevation of some younger conservatives (like perhaps Dan Crenshaw) in an effort to stake out new territory. That might be wishful thinking, but I would guess it's possible.
