I have a letter from the Commanding Officer, US Navy Recruiting Station, Portland, Oregon regarding his medal entitlement. He received the Victory Medal and the Atlantic Fleet Clasp. On the bottom in pencil is written 'Atlantic Fleet, USS Sth Dakota' so he must have served on that vessel.
