I think you're right about Romney, but I'd also suggest that all the flip flopping says more about the bizarre tent that is today's Republican Party than it does about Romney himself. Romney has an executive record that shows he's something of a centrist and a pragmatist at heart. But the largely Southern, ideologically pure wing of the Republican Party pretty much forced him into hard right positions in the primaries. Jon Hunstman wouldn't play that game, but look what that got him?

My guess is that Romney would govern more from the center out of need, especially with the "fiscal cliff" looming. That said, he'd also probably compensate by naming another arch-conservative to the Supreme Court. That alone might be reason for pause.
