Did your seat mate say, Hi, I'm a hacker, what do you do? Just curious as it seems to be a profession of which one wouldn't want to necessarily let strangers know that is what one does. But, I was in a training class on basic wireless information and the teacher talked of hacking into the at&t convention that was going on as no one had encrypted nor password protected anything and he was using that as an example of why one should password protect, at least. I was still surprised he mentioned it.
