Not to be a cynic, maestrobro, but over the years, oh say bout 2 decades or so I’ve been supplied with copious reasons to begin to suppose that letters to congressman and other such vine-ripened tomatoes on the legislative bush are far more an exercise in proper letter style & syntax than a technique to persuade policy at the legislative level. Inasmuch as I would greatly enjoy a feeling of camaraderie between my pen & the pens of those who once shunned their Whigs for hair parted just RIGHT & lapel pins but now lean more towards said Whigs again, I can’t, really. Not when they themselves cannot be bothered to truly maintain any level of real camaraderie between colleagues o th’coop; these willful banner bearers who smear and blaspheme their own President of the United States of America if & whenever she or he is NOT on their own pipeline tenet side of the grift, they who are the purveyors of Capitol canon. It just doesn’t ring true to me anymore that a well-meant letter to anybody short of oh a Cngrsmn. Traficant would get us anywhere. Not without a bribe attached in the form of yadayada & blablabla.

Do I feel bad saying that? YES. Do I want to stand and deliver the antithesis with verve? Absolutely. But I’ve seen too many blatantly ..patently ..twisted changes in the actions of our legislative branches, changes that have shown cheaters & liars to be precedent setters while earnest, learned, well-thinking, civic-minded, forthright, human women & men of the conservative/progressive/moderate/liberal/broadminded/avant-garde/laissez-faire on the whole vanguard see the working end of the political fuckthumb effectively thwarting most or ALL of the meaningful in-the-now meets selfless humanitarian forward thinking ideals and forcing us all, via duress &/or exploitation, into this atrocious state we occupy.

Why.

A pertylong time ago for a nubby stint I wore the uniform of this country’s armed forces; weren’t no supertroop but I did the do. & to do the do one had to maintain a certain level of blind faith in the principles of the id governing body and it’s Constitution. & so be it I was. BUT our Capital Hill has left the building and those who work their way into thane once hallowed halls do so with a perceived credo that, best I’ve come to dada understand, requires prerequisite compromise of one’s best notions in the form of handshake deals in noir backroom tête à tête..or,,yo,,don’t turn yur back on me, Jack! ..Imagine that. . . . Imagine that.

And if that’s the case ..then you or Ed can dissent until your black-&-blues about the face and cruel shoes..and..come 2012 you will STILL be trying altruistically and honorably so to sway in aft support of the good over the bad. & more power to you. BUT who will DO IT on Capitol Hill? U? Really, you? Who? Lonesome Dove? The gangster of Love? US? & uh, because of the powers that be, those idealisms will never see the floor unless carried there in the hands & hearts of sufficient legislators to shove back @the pooh-pooh pariahs!

But I do have an open mind, Heath, and would work in a committee of apt like-minded citizenry if I were at least 88% comfortable with the list of items. Anything less & I get too noticeably itchy. Know what I mean? It’s a weakness ..but not a frailty. A hub nut, ..so to speak.
