A lot of fear in that post, Pat. I don't believe there are nearly so many "sleeper cells" as you suggest.
There are a lot of religious people who ultimately believe that their concept of "God's law" should
trump everything else. And I agree that what keeps something like Sharia Law from entering our law
has less to do with the Constitution than it does with low numbers of Muslims here. So there's some
concern there. The real problem is when people think they can win an argument by citing "God's Will," as if they really
know what that might be. Relating present-day situations to arcane incidents in the Koran or even the
Bible is dangerous, I think. I have a (perhaps) naive view that in the larger numbers game, people are
turning away from extremist ideologies. Fareed Zakaria has written some interesting articles about the
broader Middle East that suggest just that. But like anything else that involves public opinion from
millions, it's a slow-moving change. What the US needs to do is continue to provide an alternative, a free alternative, to life under Sharia
Law.
