Let me say up front, I've never been a big sports fan.
Any good feelings I had towards pro sports were destroyed when the NFL allowed Art Modell to move the Browns out of a city that continually bought 80% of the seats in the largest stadium in the league as season tickets, win or lose. Having the Marlins sold off player by player after the Indians loss to them in the World Series didn't help either.IT'S ALL ABOUT MONEY, PEOPLE!!!So now, that model has been distilled to it's pure essence - LeBron James. He is holding court at East 9th & St. Claire, while the sports world grovels at his feet. This man, who plays A GAME, Holds my city's economy hostage (it's estimated that his presence contributes at least 16 million annually to the downtown Cleveland entertainment sector alone) and the press enraptured. Makes me gag.He has not yet posted it online (It goes up Monday), but this weeks THE CITY by DERF is the perfect coda for this circus. Get your local alternative weekly and check it out.
