The legislation doesn't make sense, Pat. I'm all for verifying status and turning in to ICE anyone who is arrested on another charge. And I'd be all for arresting those legitimately targeted in immigration violation investigations. But empowering law enforcement to almost randomly demand papers on suspicion, without a warrant?
Well that could be said of a lot of things. It's not to say it would happen. The legislation link is: http://www.azleg.gov/legtext/49leg/2r/bills/sb1070h.pdf
I haven't read the legislation, but that seems to be the allowance by many accounts.
Doesn't seem right to me.
Living in Texas, I can easily see that the result of illegal immigration is worse than what many liberals think it might be. However, let's remember that a great many rock ribbed conservative business leaders also have a stake in (and quietly promote) the status quo. Hit them (fine them) where it counts, and more will get done.
Agreed but as you know illegals down here in Texas will get no fine if not driving without a license or insurance ($400 fine which we have to pay but they get a pass). Just one example how we overlook the law for illegals.I've noticed Perry chimed in and said he would have not gone after illegals to the extent in Arizona Bill, which means he is not really serious about fixing it. Arizona's issues are far beyond that of Texas and getting lip service from Obama is not going to improve the situation
