Why not? I'm getting too old to care. Nobody I've played this for likes it...for one reason or
another,
but I like it. I think I'm finally making headway. It's probably the most honest thing I've
"written"...ie made up, since I began making up tunes way back when...
Waitin’ to Die
Too many years ago,
I was born
In the middle of a winter storm
The years have passed
Like clouds floating by,
Now I'm just
An old man,
Waitin’ to die
I've breathed enough
Of your sweet air
But like a statue
I'm still sittin' here,
I'll buy you a drink,
If you'll listen to my lies,
I'm just an old man
Waitin’ to die
Had a son that I
Lost in the war,
For a country
I don't believe in any more
They gave us a folded flag
While my wife shook and cried,
Now I’m just an old man
Waitin’ to die
The grandkids visit
Once in a while,
But they don't say much,
That's not their style,
I get confused
And my doctor don't know why
He thinks, I’m just an old man,
Waitin’ to die
I sit on the lawn of this
Nursing Home,
And watch the fields where I
Used to roam,
Me and my Palomino
How fast we'd ride
Now I'm just an old man
Waitin’ to die
I ask the Lord
For one more day
Every night, when I kneel and pray
Tonight the stars are shining
In the western sky,
Shining for an old man waitin’ to die
Just for an old man,
Waitin’ to die
