Finished this book. It's not too long, 276 pages, or too hard to read, but a sure joy to read. The book ended up being even more than I thought it would be.

It's haunting, of redemption, with sorrow and a bit of fictionalized history.

The young writer has a distinct way with words. If someone is looking for a good book of Southern writing with interesting characters, I strongly suggest picking it up. Which leads me to William Gay.

There is a movie out there coming out called "That Evening Sun" (I guarantee you are going to be hearing more about this movie and Holbrook's performance).

It stars Hal Holbrook and is based on a short story "I Hate To See That Evening Sun Go Down," which comes from a short story collection with the same name.

This guy is also a wonderfully eccentric Southern writer with a way with words.

This movie also has the great character actors Ray McKinnon and Walton Goggins in it. (Ray McKinnon is one of those people everyone usually does not know by name, but knows by sight - he was the fiance of Holly Hunter in O'Brother Where Art Thou who stole George Clooney's hair treatment. Walton Goggins is probably best known as the character "Shane" from the tv show The Shield - oddly, both of these guys are Oscar winners for a short movie they did).

Anyway, two great writers....give them a shot......
