Finally saw it and from my perspective (which is all that really matters anyway) it was a pretty faithful adaption of the book. The art direction was suitably bleak and relentless but the acting (Viggo Mortenson and especially the kid) were really good. Cameos by Robert Duvall and the guy that played Omar on 'The Wire' were terrific.

See ... no aliens, no explosions, no high tech weaponry, no Ben Affleck: just two hours of unrelenting despair, dreariness, and occasional acts of cannibalism. My kind of movie ...

Can't say much for the previews though. This round wasn't post-apocalyptic: it was capers: high tech, sophisticated capers with elaborate bank job plans, shiny guns, smooth and dangerous criminals and half-naked dangerous women, explosions, car crashes and helicopters falling out of the sky. Kind of like the new Sherlock Holmes movie.
