That sounds like a great gig, Peter! We have just got in from seeing The Sneaky Weasel Gang, Rob Hirst (from Midnight Oil), Les Karski (The Hippos, Bondi Cigars) and our good friend Geoff Waldeck. I think we're going to have trouble hearing for a while, but it was oh so worth it!! The concert was at the Vancouver Arts Centre - an historic Albany building that was originally a hospital - limestone walls inside and out - rather gorgeous. It was a sell-out, but it was a very intimate venue - I'm guessing 60-80 people. There were some pretty groovy dancers that were fun to watch too. We got to talk with all of the performers. I talked to Rob Hirst about the Sound Relief benefit concert that Midnight Oil did earlier this year - the DVD came out yesterday and we watched it before we went in tonight. It's a 4-disc set and has some great live music on it - the highlights being the reformation of three classic Australasian groups - Hunters and Collectors, Split Enz and of course Midnight Oil. Power and Passion showcases Rob Hirst at his very best. He mostly played acoustic tonight, but did replace the Sneaky Weasel's drummer on two songs, so we were priveleged to see him in full flight - awesome!!If you get the chance, check out the Sneaky Weasel Gang - they are releasing their first EP on 20th November and they have a MySpace page. Their music is blues-orientated - can't help thinking that Eugene would have loved the whole night...Live music rocks!!
