Messybear,

I'm sorry that Alyssa's presence here makes you uncomfortable (I have a mental image of a large elephant perched on a small stool with a little mouse beneath it).

Alyssa has been listening to DB since she was born - he's on constant rotation here. Boomtown was the first CD she burned onto her laptop when it was purchased. She has been looking over my shoulder when I've been on DBIS for a couple of years now.

Having done the oral lyric analysis for school recently, she has looked in more depth at the messages of the music, listened to DB interviews and watched Triage. We have discussed what we think about it all.

I think school has changed since we were there. She is exposed to the type of banter that goes on here on a daily basis at school. She is not judgemental - kids rarely are - but interested in what this group of people have to say. Like me, she is not a political animal (which perhaps makes our presence here a little unusual) - she's here for the music! She is unlikely to be a regular poster (again like me), choosing only to comment when she feels she has something worthwhile to say. She regularly frequents other messageboards - mostly for history (her passion).

She is a mature 15 year old - perhaps not in worldly experience, as I've nurtured and sheltered her the best I could - maybe too much? However, kids of today with the technology that is available to them are much less isolated intellectually. In my day, it was considered quite exotic to have a penpal from another part of the world. Now global communication is the norm and we have all struck up relationships and friendships because of it. John is going to England in 9 days time to stay with a person we bought a model aeroplane from off eBay! Strange but wonderful...
