I think that's a pretty fair summing up. The scalping scenes in IB were really gratuitous, and actually showing them didn't help the story along much. But I think his best films (IB, PF, RD, and to some extent KB) are still pretty entertaining. IB had some of the best dialogue I've seen in his films, and that's what I really enjoyed.
