Triage is a masterpiece. In fact, after reading this thread, I'm once again moved to get the CD out & into the current rotation.

As a long-time listener to the record, I also envy the people who will hear it for the first time & be moved in the way only a first-gripping can move you.

When the CD was fresh from the bin--back in 1992?--it took a while for me to warm up to it--but that just goes to show that Neil Postman is right when he says "not everything worthwhile is immediately accessible."

Now, when I listen with better ears and understanding, I anticipate and enjoy the hooks, but I get pulled in by the undertow just as much.

One thing I've never done is listen to the record with headphones on. I look forward to that. No doubt I'll hear things that had gone unknown to me before. Perhaps these stale old ears can be refreshed after all.
