You might be surprised how many people, given the option to stay at home, without having more hospitalizations, needles, tests, etc; are relieved to receive good, supportive medical, emotional and spiritual care instead.
I am certainly not proposing that people be denied care just because they reach a certain age, but right now we aren't effectively engaging in t he conversation with patients and their families about palliative care and hospice as an option.
