How aggressive can the guy be when his own party won't back him fully. Maher's comparison to Bush deserves credit. The democrats are proving their desire for nuance is stifling progress. The Repubs never nitpicked Bush's policies. The fact that Bush was so wrong and unwilling to man up to his heinous mistakes was the problem, not the efficiency of getting legislation passed. Take good ideas and pass them into law. If there not perfect they can be adjusted. The current congress makes me sick. I can't believe they wussed out on Guantanamo. The lack of major substance on policy issues can be blamed on the weasles who think you can't keep the detainees in US prisons safely. I'll bet you right now the neocon corps like the Carlyle Group and Blackwater are teeming up to resolve this under some pretty heading like "The Terrorist Containment Alliance" bamboozling congressional democrats into building more "Terrorist Ready" jails in their districts. Not only could the repubs get the damm bill passed they could create jobs, make money, and be assured that plenty of cells will be available when they regain power to take care of those who oppose them. Terrorists.
