We met in Cleveland. Related to each other for a year by phone and poetic letters while I gallivanted around a Far Eastern island because I signed the muthaforkin contract … and because my heart was mostly in it (at the time). Then we lived in inexhaustible sin in SoCal for a while before marrying each other in Northridge, …a good place to be married back in the 80’s, it’s probably not near as nice a place now as it was then. Two nearly grown sons and 21 conjugal years later, …& I know now that dreams are bullshit; just pixie dust we sprinkle on our conscious to keep us getting up and facing Earth and Man another day. & that’s okay, I suppose, as at this age most aches are tolerable, …and it’s really easy to cream a dream-lovin’ family. Just one diagnosis and one really big hospital, and life easily slips onto the path of glad simplicities; …get cured, get back to making some income, don’t lose the house, and otherwise live as long as we can in quiet desperation with each other, in love, in America. I literally cannot see anything beyond that exact curtain, there’s no room for theatre, no room for restaurants, no room for Summer plans or a new refrigerator or the room addition, only hope for continuation. & since we have not been or are not presently living in a clay box on some destroyed street in the Middle East, with crying starving peasant babies wrapped in rice sack material … what’s to bitch about?
I don’t get the feeling all today’s politicking is going to lead the people anywhere excellent this afternoon. Looks to be another day in Amorica. Here’s cheers to those with a birthday today, & best wishes for those who still believe they can make a noble difference, or at least have the means and willingness to try to produce something truly (innovative) creative in the 21st Century. May those at the very top, well, ENJOY having their cake while eating it too; I mean, somebody might as well, the lawmakers have worked so diligently @ mocking the remainder of us ~ yeah, even you who are presently thinking your career/living is keeping you in comfort & security (may that last a long time for you is my earnest hope). .
