Pat was right. The boys hated recording Fables and hated working in England with that folkie knob twiddler. I believe I read in "Q" magazine that it was the band's least favorite disc. I haven't listened to it in years and shall pull it out for a spin tonight. It's almost universal opinion of music critics that "Murmur " is their finest moment. The disc created so many clones, it was frightning... The one man most responsible for shaping the R.E.M. sound is Mitch Easter(of Let's Active fame), and he doesn't get his due. There's an expanded, re-mastered deluxe edition comming out next year I beieve.

...I miss Stipe's mumble vocals.
