Points well taken. Also, Obama's committee never met once while he chaired it, and most of his votes were "present". McCain's recent move, is however, largely strategic, I think. At first I though he had once again shot himself in the foot, but now I realize it is possibly a rather bright ploy, because he will need something to survive in November; with the recent economic shit hitting the fan, Obama looks like he's cruising to a landslide. Now, McCain has announced to the public that he has momentarily stopped his campaign to help "solve" the economic crisis and work on the bill. He will even miss the debate (hmmm)! In other words he is trying to show that he is so dedicated to his job as Senator, that even his campaign can wait...he is that selfless, and he is a true "leader". I don't know if his strategy will work, but it might. And if it does, he is again smarter than I thought. Up until now, he clearly fumbled the ball when he made that assinine statement about the principles of the economy being "strong"; Obama cleverly picked up the ball and ran with it. The poll point spread widened significantly since then. The public is very gullible to think that either of the two can "fix" the economy and this buyout thing is not only a bandaid, it won't fix the situation. I don't think it is government's role to loan out to failed business. it will add to the national debt and be passed on as a tax burden. Neither of the 2 candidates will be able to avoid the inevitable once elected..taxes are going to have to increase for everybody, no way around that one.
