They have a terrible air pollution problem there, largely due to coal emissions. I don't know how far Beijing is from the coal mining regions, but the air is so unhealthy in coal country that trees cannot grow. The miners know the dangers, but need the work. Major problem. They have no pollution controls in place and don't aim to implement any... There are regions there, where the sun can never be seen. I don't think much of China, although it is a fascinating country. I applaud the athlete's decision not to compete there. More should do the same.
