ESCAPE TO THE PARK  feat. The Cruel Sea, Ben Lee, Bob Evans (with band), Kate Miller-Heidke and  Abbe May & The Rockin' Pneumonia
Kings Park & Botanic Garden, Perth | Saturday 29 November 2008

Mellen Events and Roundhouse are proud to announce the return of Escape To The Park to the heart of the city, the event that played such an integral role in launching the popularity of Sarah Blasko in Perth back in 2006, when she played that year alongside a stellar cast that included Augie March, Tex Perkins and Josh Pyke. In 2008 we've upped the ante with an even bigger lineup!

The Cruel Sea, fresh from a ripping return show in March at the West Coast Blues & Roots Festival, head the bill and you can expect to hear all your favourites including The Honeymoon Is Over, Black Stick, Better Get A Lawyer and This Is Not The Way Home.  Get ready for an unforgettable night, it's Tex and the boys' first headline show in Perth since their hiatus a few years back and they're sounding sharper than ever.

Co-headliner Ben Lee is no stranger to these shores, his last visit here accompanying WASO another memorable Kings Park evening.  One of Australia's most successful ever independent artists alongside the likes of The Waifs, The Whitlams and John Butler, Lee's shows are famous for crowd singalongs to classics like We're All In This Together, Catch My Disease and Cigarettes Will Kill You as well as all the hits from his acclaimed latest record, Ripe.

Local hero Bob Evans has a new single and new album on the way and will no doubt combine some sneak peaks from this hotly anticipated release (his first new recordings since a great cover of Lucinda Williams' Car Wheels On A Gravel Road from the popular No Man's Woman compilation last year) alongside faves from his ARIA award winning Suburban Songbook, which produced the monster hits Don't You Think It's Time and Nowhere Without You.  Performing with his cracking band of local Perthonalities, the Jebediah frontman has found overwhelming success as Bob Evans - expect his star to continue to rise with a starring show at Kings Park!

Kate Miller-Heidke, fresh from the breathtaking performance supporting Cyndi Lauper in April that left concert-goers saying she stolen Cyndi's thunder, returns to Perth exclusively for this special event - find out what all the hype is about at Escape To The Park 2008 as she performs tracks from her acclaimed debut Little Eve alongside newies from her second album due this September. "Enthralled, engaged, transfixed; that was Kate Miller-Heidke's audience, barely able to break the spell and jig along - this performance was so consuming. In a blood red dress, Miller-Heidke's punishing vocal prowess is the impetus of the gutsiest show in Australian music at the moment. KMH epitomises musical excitement." ~Mike Gribble Adelaide Advertiser (review of Adelaide Fringe Festival).  Need we say more?

And fresh from an inspired Australian tour in support of debut album Howl & Moan catch the incredible voice of local lass Abbe May out front of her band The Rockin' Pneumonia to open the show, and find out why she's one of the country's most talked about emerging talents right now in the live setting where, like Kate Miller-Heidke, she shines brightest.
