This link will take you to a fascinating article (spoilers within) about There Will Be Blood that veers off into art, too.

As for me, I love contemporary art - I mean really "now" - I adore modern, I respect and admire classical. But contemporary art is, for me, like music without lyrics. Something to which I can have a visceral experience without my rational and analytical mind(s) kicking in. It's a Caribbean holiday for my head and a deeply sensual and sometimes emotional experience for me. And, I don't want to know the biography of the person who made/wrote it - that's superfluous. It's quite different for me than when words are involved - books, theatre, music with lyrics. Although, in general, I find myself much much more weary with intellectual criticism these days and unfailingly impatient with lengthy analysis of most art forms and artists. But, that's just me.
