The Rule is "Wait for the Service Pack"
Most institutions/businesses don't upgrade to the initial release, unless they want to get burned. The Vista Service Pack 1 Beta is about to be released, with general release in Q1 of 08. If they can wait until then, you should be alright.
Most of the problems I'm hearing about are from users that have it on mid to low end machines. It's a total resource hog - you need 2GB RAM, a 256MB vid card and a 3GB processor just to run the base system effectively. If you want all the bells & whistles, you need 4GB RAM, 526 MB V RAM (or better) and at least a mid-level dual core processor.
