Ready or not, is right, because we are mandated with that task, and must honor that committment.  Just wish their president would have given us more funding, instead of curbing funds.   We are already well positioned to handle PTSD, since we deal with a bunch of that already, but the TBI scares me.  I've only seen the tip of the iceberg so far, and the kind of services needed will require more manpower than we currently have.

Like many government agencies VA likes to put a bandaid on some problems, and label them "solved".  For example with TBI, they made mandatory some classroom time so employees could learn about TBI patients and what to do for them, but I'm not sure that qualifies for actually being able to look after those patients.

Most of the acute amputee work and brain rehab is currently being done at Dept of Defense hospitals, like San Antonio.  I've only seen one very involved case here, where the vet needed to be treated here due to logistics.  It required a full team to look after him, and we needed lots of help from Baltimore VA.  If we get a lot of patients like that, it is going to be a challenge, to put it mildly.
