Icon Re: Jesus Christ, metaphorically deprived deity

I do wish you had the inclination Mick but it's already been done time and again in a field called textual criticism. Primarily by people who doubt God's ability to preserve his own words. Or wanted the royalties for themselves more likely.

As a young Christian, long before I had heard of textual criticism, I was faced with the perplexing problem of which bible to adhere to as they often seemed, if not (always)contradictory, out of sync with one another. It seemed pretty plain to me that words should be translated with less deviation (also much later I began to understand your suggestion, that agenda's were indeed afoot). So I started checking out bibles from the library. Early on I was rather fond of the Amplified New Testament what with it seeming all modern as advertised. One day I took several bibles home, one of which was the Parallel Bible. Meaning it contained several versions(4 as I recall) side by side. Some weeks later it was unmistakable that the Amplified would be of no future use.

My argument remains that God promised to preserve his word, and I not only believe him capable but that it's available for the finding today.

To this day I believe the truth can be known, but it requires a sincere desire before one is allowed their eyes be opened(Gods rule, not mine). That said, I'll leave you with 25 versions of Rev 1:1, some of which I had never perused previously. The interesting thing is that all but two, regardless of sect, are essentially in agreement as to the author of the book in question. Most of the sects you mentioned are represented excepting the JW New World version which I do not have. Nor do I have the NIV, for reasons of royalties, which is among the most popular of modern versions still in circulation. (there have been some 200 versions produced since 1881)

So enjoy! (& be sure to scroll to the end)
