Thanks to Kent Bentkowski for inviting me over.I have been a fan of David's from the DAVID/DAVID period. I managed music stores for 20 years when it
meant something. I missed the one swing that they made through central Ohio(I live just North of Columbus).I still have my promo cassette copy of
WELCOME.I championed David's solo work at every possible opportunity and personally sold several copies of
both BEDTIME and TRIAGE to the more aware customers in my store.I knew of David's work with the TNMC and production on
Suzanna Hoff's 2nd solo CD - a MARKED improvement over her first one! I lost track of David after the mid 90s.Last year, after having read Hopsicker's BARRY AND THE BOYS, I stumbled onto Mike Ruppert's website.I
sent him an email informing him of David's work.
He sent me an email back....silly me, he and David
were aquaintances. He had given his copy of TRIAGE away, so I sent him a copy of mine, but post 9-11 being what it was, an employee nuked it. I carefully
sent him one to replace it.Mike told me of David's move to Texas and also hipped me to the Sean Penn's films that David had written music for; yet another way to appreciate
David's mighty talent. It thrilled me to learn of David's new CD, and his
songs about tragic loss have recently taken on
personal meaning.3 weeks ago my best friends' only child perished in an accident in our community pool. Even more tragically, my Wife was the Manager on duty and
was the first to administer CPR. I know that in time I'll be OK, but right now I feel broken and unfixable, as does my Wife.David, your songs have been a strong rope to hold to while I learn to grieve for my friends Son, and the sense of loss that we all are feeling now.He was 13 years old; athletic, a good swimmer, very
creative. He was also a student/coach with Special Olympics. It's just so damn hard to understand. Thanks for all the integrity over the years.I'm looking forward to talking to and learning from
David's fans.Thanks,Freeman Carmack
