I'm not a practising Christian myself, but interested in religion, its mechanics and psychology.
You mention Judas. Did you read about the alleged Gospel of Judas? I thought that gave an interesting insight into early Chrisitanity. In school, I never quite understood why Judas was branded a "traitor" as the only way Jesus could become Christ was to die for us, so somebody would obviously have to betray him. As I see it, if Judas hadn't betrayed Jesus, Jesus would not have become Christ?
BTW Have you read Kazantzakis "The Last Temptation of Christ"?
