Hi Cassandra:

I agree your husband's situation is wrong. As I do not believe the government should be in the business of busines, I could never support governmental universal health care.

Nonetheless, I have never understood why the government does not mandate we maintain retirement plans(401k's, e.g.), health care plans(or savings account) and the like, from the beginning of our working lives. And specifically, that they be completely portable with no penalties. It seems it would be a perfect opportunity for the public schools to teach personal finance. (Of course the answer is, that the folks who write the rules are connected to the effected industries and they profit when folks careers shift.)
